WHEREAS the Mega-Yacht Marina ("Victoria International Marina") was approved by Transport Canada in 2012 and there has subsequently been a change in government;
AND WHEREAS the Mega-Yacht Marina will intrude on the designated paddling corridor in Victoria Harbour, aggravate existing marine traffic congestion and create safety risks associated with floatplanes, ferries, barges and other harbour users;
AND WHEREAS the Mega-Yacht Marina will detract from public enjoyment of the Westsong Walkway, a municipal park and greenway extending along the northerly shore of Victoria Harbour, while providing little public benefit with proposed moorage and amenities that are out of reach of the large majority of residents and visitors who are not wealthy;
THEREFORE WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, call on all levels of government to take action to protect public use and enjoyment of Victoria Harbour, by rejecting the Mega-Yacht Marina and designating the publicly owned water lot as a marine park, safeguarding ecological and recreational values in perpetuity.
